Here is a classic Tres Leches Cake recipe:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Tres Leches Mixture:

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk (or heavy cream for a richer version)

For the topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Make the cake:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until pale and fluffy (about 5 minutes). Add the milk and vanilla, then mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and fold until fully incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with a hand mixer or stand mixer until soft peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the cake batter until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.

2. Make the Tres Leches Mixture:

  • In a bowl, combine the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk (or heavy cream). Stir until well mixed.
  • Once the cake has cooled, pierce the top of the cake all over with a fork or skewer. Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let the cake sit for 30 minutes, or until it has absorbed the liquid.

3. Make the topping:

  • In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • Spread the whipped cream over the soaked cake evenly.

4. Serve:

  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving, or overnight for the best flavor. Slice and enjoy!
